As of January 4, 2010, the procedure to access electronic resources (online journals, books, and databases) provided through the Norris Medical Library has changed at CHLA. This change is necessary to comply with USC’s licensing obligations to ensure that licensed resources are used only by USC faculty, staff or students.
Now when you click on any licensed resource, the remote access portal login page will appear. USC faculty, students, residents and fellows with a USC computer account (email@example.com) should enter your username (do not include @usc.edu) and password to identify yourself and your affiliation with USC. Once validated for a search session, you will be able to access other licensed resources directly without having to re-enter your username and password. For Ovid, USC users should use the “Start Ovid” button for USC faculty, staff, students and residents from the Ovid access page at http://www.usc.edu/ovid. These same procedures apply to access from home or other non-USC campus locations. If you don’t remember your USC username or password, contact the Norris Medical Library Technology Support Center, (323) 442-1968.
Please note that CHLA employees still have access to several Ovid databases (including MEDLINE), electronic books, and electronic journals that have been licensed by Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Simply go to the Ovid access page and click on the “Start Ovid” button for CHLA employees. Articles can be requested online using the Interlibrary Loan Form or with the paper form available in the library.
