NML Mobile App Show and Tell Declares a Winner!

NML-Logo2Smart Office 2  was declared the winner of Norris Medical Library’s Mobile App Show and Tell on Friday, January 25th. This app permits you to create and view Microsoft Office documents, including .doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx, and .xls.  It is available for iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile. Price varies based on the device used to purchase the app (as some Android devices include discounts), but ranges between $.50 and $5.99. Micromedex Moving to New Web Address

Micromedex 2.0Effective February 27, 2013, all Micromedex products will be moving to a new URL and Internet domain to reflect a change in ownership.  All instances of the http://www.thomsonhc.com address will become www.micromedexsolutions.com .   This new URL is available now to enable updating of user bookmarks.

Starting in February, a web page will redirect those accessing Micromedex through the thomsonhc address to the new address until June 2013.   This change impacts all access methods and bookmarks linking to Micromedex web-based products.


NIH Public Access Policy Webinar Announced

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced it will hold a webinar on January 15, 2013, 9:30-11:00 AM PST “to assist grantee institutions with guidance and resources related to the NIH Public Access Policy, upcoming changes, tools, and how non-compliance will affect awards.” NIH earlier announced that in the spring, at the earliest, it “will hold processing of non-competing continuation awards if publications arising from grant awards are not in compliance with the Public Access Policy.” To register for the webinar, visit https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/491218022.

Responsible Administrator BookThe sixth edition of The Responsible Administrator:  An Approach to Ethics for the Administrative Role (HF 5387 C776r 2012), authored by Terry L. Cooper, the Maria B. Crutcher Professor in Citizenship and Democratic Values at USC’s  Sol Price School of Public Policy, was recently added to Norris’ book collection.   “Using the real-life experiences of public administrators, Cooper provides strategies that individual administrators can use to analyze the ethical dilemmas they confront on the job – and outlines ways organizations can foster responsible administration.”1,2
