Lots of students think that there should be at least one library that opens 24-7 in HSC. Please.
We know that some students would like to have a late night study area on the Health Sciences Campus. Unfortunately, as we have stated in the past, the library doesn’t have the staff to keep the library open later throughout the entire school year. We do provide “extended hours” on weekends throughout the school year that precede major exam periods. We select weekends that will benefit the greatest number of HSC students, and try to accommodate all of the campus schools and programs we serve. This year there will be fourteen weekends when we stay open until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. In past years, only a small number of HSC students have taken advantage of the extended hours.
At the same time, we appreciate the need for late night study and that is the reason a late night study area was established in the Café space of the Seaver Residence Hall. It is available for students throughout the night seven days a week whenever the library is closed. The Café late night study area has a number of advantages:
• The space has a variety of seating available.
• Wireless connectivity is in place.
• Restrooms are available.
• There are vending machines right outside the door.
• There is a card swipe mechanism for access to the area.
• The residence hall is secured by a locked elevator and stairwell.
• It is convenient to the parking structure and the Public Safety Office.
If you haven’t applied for access privileges, please ask for a form at the library’s circulation desk or pick one up from the counter as you enter the library. It provides instructions for students of each HSC school regarding where it should be submitted for processing.
